The regional governor of Arequipa, Rohel Sanchez Sanchezdeclared that the State Coordination and Response System in International Investment Disputes (Sicreci) of the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF), had already issued a result on the direct deal between the Regional Government of Arequipa (GRA) and the cobra companyin charge of the Majes Siguas II project.
However, the regional authority mentioned that said pronouncement does not present any results for the benefit of the GRA or for the concessionary company. “The Sicresi has already pronounced and in practice, there is no greater relevance in his pronouncement,” he indicated.
Despite this result, the governor of Arequipa reported that he will continue with the work groups with the Cobra concessionaire, which are taking place in the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Arequipa (CCIA). Likewise, he waits for Cobra’s goodwill to take action and continue the work.
“The Majes Siguas project, for us, is a priority emblematic work and we are going to make every effort to make it happen and move forward, regardless of the decision that the concessionaire may make,” declared Sánchez.
Cobra Legal Counsel
Regarding the case of Cobra’s legal advisor, Jimmy Paredes Tejada, who worked from 2012 to 2015 at the Autonomous Authority of Majes (Autodema) and then I go to work at Cobra, Governor Rohel Sánchez avoided commenting and left the investigation in the hands of the Arequipa Professional Bar Association.
“It is up to the Arequipa bar association to pronounce itself because it has to do with the code of ethics and if there are some indications that go beyond it, I think the dean should take matters into its own hands,” he declared.
Sánchez gave these statements at the delivery of the new premises to the Jardín de Blanquita educational institution, located in the upper part of the district of cayma.
