The Ministry of Energy and Mining will invest 514 million dollars in electricity distribution works in 2023

Works on electrical distribution will be a priority during the year 2023 of the Ministry of Energy and Mining, and 514 million dollars will be invested for it.

Three plans and two programs aimed at improving the quality of service, expanding the power system and modernizing the infrastructure will be implemented.

In the sub-transmission plan, they plan to work across the country on 152 projects, which include the construction and re-energization of substations and sub-transmission lines, spread across 19 provinces, at a cost of $54.59 million and expected to benefit 760,000 people.

Regarding the distribution plan, the ministry points out that in the country they estimate that 1,221 projects will be implemented through electrical companies during the year 2023. These works will relate to the construction and repowering of outlets, the change of transformation centers and the implementation of new network extensions, the investment of which amounts to 236.83 million dollars. The number of users would be 610,000.

Another point he lists as a priority is the public lighting plan, for which they plan to carry out 1,081 projects for the installation of around 50,000 LED lighting fixtures at an estimated cost of $62.02 million. It will be in charge of the power distribution companies of Ecuador. Total number of users 220,000.

The State Portfolio also indicates that it will allocate 111.26 million dollars for one of the most relevant programs that works in coordination with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the program to support the improvement of changes in the energy matrix (IDB V), which includes strengthening the expansion, reinforcement and improvement of operational efficiency of the power system, as provided by the Power Master Plan (PME) and the National Plan for Energy Efficiency (Planee).

There are 715 projects within the program that will have 380,000 users.

On the agenda of the ministry is also the program of modernization and renovation of the Ecuadorian electric power system (IDB VI), for which it allocated 49.42 million dollars, which will be distributed in 160 projects and will have 117,500 users.

These projects are aimed at strengthening aspects related to planning, system management and facilitating expansion, as well as service quality and reliability.
