Eight Latin American universities in the ranking of the 250 with the best employability, none is Peruvian

The graduates of eight Latin American universities are among the most employable in the world, according to the Classification and Global University Employability Survey which was published this Wednesday, November 24 in the British magazine Times Higher Education (THE). In the list there are institutions from four countries in the region, none are from Peru.

The annual ranking includes the Top 250 Universities in terms of professional insertion and is prepared by the American consultancy Emerging. The first Latin American institution to be found on the list is the Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Studies, in position 82, it rises nine positions compared to its position in 2020.

It is followed by University of Sao Paulo, which climbs to seat 90 from 109, and the National Autonomous University of Mexico, in position 121 from 130. They continue the Buenos Aires’ University, which falls one position to 141. For its part, the University of Chile rises from 160 in 2020 to 157 this year, and the Diego Portales University, also from Chile, ranks 239. Finally, the University of Guadalajara falls two positions and is located at point number 243 and the Pontifical Catholic University Argentina closes the ranking at 248th place.

American Universities in Best Places for Employability Indexes

Four of the best universities are in the United States, with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in first place, followed by the California Institute of Technology, Harvard University and Stanford University in fifth seat. The University of Cambridge in Great Britain ranks fourth.

The top 10 also includes Stanford University, University of Tokyo, Yale University, Oxford University, University of Singapore, and Princeton.

A total of 23 countries and regions participated in the study and obtained 118,196 votes, cast by 10,928 international recruiters and managers.

Factors considered by the Times Higher Education Ranking

The classification is based on six indicators considered by companies as key to guaranteeing the employability of university graduates. These factors are:

  • Academic excellence
  • Digital performance (innovative learning methods, specialized training in digital jobs)
  • Focus on work (have a business environment, relevant work experience as part of the curriculum)
  • Internationalism
  • Soft skills and digital literacy
  • Specialization (technical and research knowledge).
