Produces: cooperative formalization process will benefit more than 5,000 artisanal fishermen

For the benefit of more than 5,000 artisanal fishermenthe Ministry of Production (Produce) established general provisions to facilitate the development of this activity, through Supreme Decree No. 003-2023-PRODUCE, that will allow the formalization of vessels up to 6.48 gross tonnage.

More than 900 artisanal fishing vessels will be considered formal, provided they manage the fishing permit, through the administrative procedure approved by Supreme Decree No. 018-2021-PCM.

The regulation extends the deadline for the formalization process until December 31 of this year, In this way, the continuation of the extraction operations of the fishing vessels will be allowed for more than 44,000 tons of hydrobiological resources. on average, per year, whose contribution is 5% of the Gross Production Value of Artisanal Fishing.

In addition, the participation of these vessels in extractive activities will enable the supply of raw materials to the fishing industry, generating foreign exchange worth more than US$31 million per year.

In addition, would generate 8,400 additional direct jobsin the different stages of the productive chain, due to its decentralized and geographically dispersed activities.
