Trade unionists propose to the Government to increase the basic salary by $ 25 every six months until reaching $ 500

Next Tuesday the National Council of Work and Salaries will be reinstated to define a possible increase in remuneration for 2022.

The Unitary Front of Workers (FUT) He proposed to the national government that progressive increases of $ 25 be made to the Unified Basic Salary (SBU) to reach the $ 100 increase offered by President Guillermo Lasso during the electoral campaign.

The FUT, which groups together several union unions, presented its proposal on November 24 in a public statement, after the National Labor and Wages Council (CNTS) did not reach an agreement on Tuesday afternoon on the setting of basic remuneration. that will rule by 2022.

Ángel Sánchez, president of the Front, explained that the proposal is to increase $ 25 in 2021 and after six months, in 2022, the next $ 25, and so on until reaching $ 500. Currently the SBU is $ 400.

The definition of the basic salary that will govern in 2022 is delayed

“We have not closed ourselves, but we believe it is necessary to review the salaries of workers that were cut based on the Humanitarian Support Law,” Sánchez urged.

In the same sense, Messías Tatamuez, president of the Ecuadorian Confederation of Unitary Classist Workers’ Organizations (Cedocut), who reminded the head of state that his campaign proposal was to increase the salary by $ 500, and that to achieve this, his proposal should be implemented so that every six months $ 25 is added.

José Villavicencio, president of the General Union of Workers (UGTE), He criticized that after six months of Lasso’s administration, “there is no labor policy”, so at the end of 2021 “the same story is reached that the parties do not agree and the one who decides is the Government through the Ministry of Labor, ”he said.

Although the FUT is not part of the National Labor and Wages Council, they clarified that their proposal is given because the last meeting to discuss this increase was suspended last Tuesday due to lack of agreements between the authorities and delegates of the Ministry of Labor, of employers and workers.

At the end of the CNTS meeting, the attorney for the Federation of Public and Private Workers, Cristóbal Buendía, explained that the proposal was to raise $ 25 and that each year that average be maintained until it reaches $ 500.

However, there is no final resolution.

The next meeting of the CNTS will be tentatively reinstated this November 30, to resolve a possible increase if the parties reach an agreement.

Otherwise it will be the Ministry of Labor the one that takes a definition, which should be based on the inflation projected for next year, which is estimated at 1.28%, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (INEC). (I)
