European states bordering Russia and Belarus will strengthen coordination to comply with international sanctions. According to RBC, delegations from Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Norway and Finland agreed on this during three-day consultations.

“At the meeting, it was decided to intensify cooperation in the enforcement of sanctions, strengthen the uniform application of customs control, harmonize the processes for issuing permits and increase the regular exchange of information and best practices. The parties agreed to develop a single instruction for companies on how to detect sanctions evasion.

The Finnish Foreign Ministry noted that Western countries have an obligation to fight attempts to circumvent restrictions, this is a key task for those states that are “in the forefront of sanctions enforcement.”

The department noted that a significant part of European exports, including sanctioned ones, goes through Russian territory to third countries.
