The Supervisory Agency for Private Investment in Telecommunications (Osiptel) reported that, at the end of the third quarter of the year, Peru has around 42 million active lines and surpassed the results of the second quarter by 2.8%, thus registering a recovery in the mobile telephony market.
In addition, he highlighted that this amount marks a new maximum since July 2019, a year without a pandemic. Between June and September of this year, more than 1.1 million lines were added to the mobile market.

Postpaid and prepaid modalities
Between June and September, increase represented 2.3% for prepaid lines and 3.5% for postpaid, by incorporating 577,272 and 553,305 mobile lines, respectively. The participation of prepaid mobile lines corresponded to 60.9% of the total, while postpaid mobile lines had a participation of 39.1%.
Regarding the contractual modalities prepaid and postpaid (the one that groups the control and postpaid modalities), totaled almost 25.6 million and 16.4 million mobile lines, respectively, having a cumulative growth of 11.2% and 14.9%, each, in the last 12 months.
Participation of mobile companies
Claro and Movistar were the companies that grouped more than 12.9 million and 11.8 million mobile lines during September. This gave them a 30.9% and 28.4% share in the mobile market, respectively.
On the other hand, Entel recorded more than 9 million mobile lines, reaching a participation of 21.6%, while the Bitel company concentrated more than 7.8 million mobile lines and obtained a participation of 18.7%.

Likewise, there was a growth of virtual mobile operators, such as Flash y Guinea Mobile, which despite having only 0.43% of the market increased by 39.9% and 779% compared to September 2020. This advance generates expectations about its future expansion.
Movistar maintained its leadership in the mobile market during September. However, in the postpaid modality, which guarantees the stable income of the operating companies, the Claro company led that segment with 31.2% of participation, followed by Movistar with 28.8%, then Entel with 24.4% and Bitel with 15.6%.
Increase in mobile lines in regions
During September, Lima registered 11.4 million mobile lines and accounted for 27.3% of the national total. However, it was not the region with the greatest percentage advance compared to the same period of the previous year, in which it obtained 7.5%, as was Madre de Dios with 22.6%, Lambayeque with 16.4%, Amazonas with 16.2%, Loreto with 15.6%, Ucayali with 15.4% and San Martin with 15.3%.
