ONP: how much pension will I receive if I only contributed 10 years and what is the application process?

Following the publication of the proportional pension law in October 2021, thousands of affiliates of the Pension Standardization Office (ONP) found various facilities to benefit without the need to have 20 years of contributions. At the end of 2022, more than 24,000 accessed this payment. If you are at least 65 years old and you are a member of the National Pension System of Legislative Decree No. 19990 you can request your special proportional retirement pension. In this regime, the amount of the monthly benefit varies according to the time of contributions:

  • Have between 10 years and less than 15 years of contribution: you receive S/250 per month in a period of 12 times a year.
  • Have between 15 years and less than 20 years of contribution: you receive S/350 per month in a period of 12 times a year

Both pension amounts are subject to the 4% discount by EsSalud.​

The established ranges are 20 years of contributions to access a minimum pension of S/500: between 15 and 19 years old to access S/350; and between 10 and less than 15 years to receive S/250. As the official explained to this newspaper, it can be applied, for example, through a one year pension loan and, furthermore, accrediting, through a sworn declaration, two additional years, as long as they have worked in a company. “There the benefits of the national pension system are combined,” said the specialist.

Proportional pensions: what are the requirements to access?

In addition to being at least 65 years old, to access a proportional pension, you must meet the following requirements:

  1. request according to virtual format.
  2. Simple copy of the regular payment certificates (CPR), special payment certificates (CPE) or others payment vouchers issued by the former Peruvian Institute of Social Security (IPSS) or EsSalud, provided that the information is not found in the systems managed by the ONP.
  3. Simple copy of the documents proving the employment relationship or an affidavit simple to check the employment relationship such as:
  • work certificates
  • Remuneration payment slips
  • Settlement of service time or social benefits
  • Proof of contributions of the Office of Registration and National Individual Account of Insured Employers (Orcinea), issued by the Peruvian Institute of Social Security (IPSS) or the Social Security of Health (EsSalud).
  • Any public document in accordance with article 235 of the Civil Procedure Code.

In a maximum period of 30 calendar days, you will be informed of the result by means of a resolution that will arrive by mail or at your address. If the response takes longer, you will be granted a provisional pension until the decision is issued. Remember that all notifications will be sent to the email you registered.
