Produce establishes reproductive ban for 30 days of the hake resource

The Ministry of Production (Produces) decided to establish a reproductive ban on the hake resource in the area between the northern limit of the Peruvian maritime domain and 04° 00’S, for which its extraction is prohibited for a period of 30 calendar days.

However, the ministerial resolution published this Wednesday 24 in the official gazette A Peruvian man specifies that said provision is not applicable to the fishing vessels included in Supreme Decree No. 006-2022-PRODUCE, which establishes the special provisional regime for extractive activities of the hake resource by artisanal vessels.

This measure was given after the Institute of the Sea of ​​Peru (Imarpe), through a report, concluded that the estimated landing of hake, so far in the July 2022 – June 2023 fishing regime, amounts to 1 million 203 thousand 700 tons, in addition to the fact that it was the subarea A the area from which it came the highest proportion (52.4%).

However, “during the first fortnight and so far in the second fortnight of July, the reproductive activity of hake has increased in subarea A, whose estimated value is around 50%”.

In this sense, the Imarpe It recommended “immediately adopting the pertinent management measures to protect the reproductive process of hake in the area between the northern limit of the Peruvian maritime domain and 04°S for a minimum period of 30 days.”
