This Monday, hundreds of Rappi distributors walked various streets of the Magdalena del Mar district to demand better working conditions from the online ordering platform.
The reason for the protest is that the application now offers the option of “cheap shipping” to its users. In this way, the distributors can make two or three orders for the payment of only one, according to the Observatorio Plataformas PerĂº portal.
For example, for two delivery services with an approximate distance of 4.8 km and four stops, the application pays S/4.43 to its delivery drivers.
While, for three orders with six stops at a distance of 5.9 km, the commission is S/9.48.
For this reason, motorists demand fair rates and a more humane treatment by the company. This claim is added to others such as blocks or arbitrary suspensions of accounts that Rappi has been carrying out in recent months.
rappi responds
The Rappi platform, for its part, indicated that they respect the right to public and peaceful demonstration. They further noted that Each update that is made is communicated in a timely manner to the more than 12,000 “independent distributors” registered in the application.
“For the specific case of today’s demonstrations, we want to clarify that last Saturday, May 13, all delivery drivers were proactively notified about certain specific adjustments to certain orders. This communication could have caused confusion in some distributors who were not affected since they did not carry out any of the orders affected by the change.“added Rappi through a statement.
Likewise, the platform stated that they are willing to “listen to the concerns and comments of independent distributors. For this reason, we have different service channels, and means of permanent dialogue such as the help center from the Soy Rappi App, email rtperu@rappi .com or by phone +51 946801909 via WhatsApp, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We invite all distributors who have any complaint, disagreement or claim to contact us through these channels”.
