Polling stations for the presidential and parliamentary elections in Turkey closed on Sunday at 17:00 (Moscow time). After the completion of voting, the votes cast for presidential candidates will be counted first, TASS clarifies.

Voting took place in 81 provinces and is said to have been without significant disruption or incident.

The current President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, traditionally voted in Istanbul. His rival, opposition candidate Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, did so in Ankara.

Recall that three candidates are participating in the presidential elections in Turkey – Erdogan, Kılıçdaroglu and Sinan Ogan, a candidate from the ATA Alliance.

However, the main struggle for the highest state post is unfolding between Erdogan and Kılıçdaroğlu. Experts do not rule out a second round, which may take place on May 28.

Earlier, the deputy head of the Republican People’s Party and Turkish presidential candidate Kemal Kılıçdaroglu Oğuz Salycı told RIA Novosti that the Turkish opposition intends to improve relations with Russia and solve some problems of bilateral relations through dialogue.

“We are not prejudiced towards relations with Russia,” Salydzhy stressed.

At the same time, Kylychdaroglu himself recently called on Russia “not to interfere in the elections” in the republic. Commenting on this statement, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Moscow does not interfere in the internal politics and electoral processes of other states.
