Crude oil pumping through the Trans-Ecuadorian Pipeline System (SOTE) resumed on the same day that the intentional damage to the pipeline that caused the oil spill was reported.

Petroecuador considers this to be sabotage and has launched an investigation to determine the joint responsibilities of the national police and Ecuador’s armed forces.

Petroecuador condemns the oil leak as a sabotage to SOTE

The incident was reported early Wednesday morning in the province of SucumbĂos. Firefighting operations resumed at 18:00 after the completion of emergency works, drainage and pipeline repairs in the Santa Cecilia sector, at the 11th kilometer of the Lago Agrio-Quito highway.

Petroecuador suspended SOTE operations to mitigate the effects of this fuel leak. This, which lasted for several hours, did not affect exports, the oil company claims, because there is enough crude oil in the storage tanks.
