ONP: They propose that retirees receive a bonus while the reform of the pension system is defined

the congressman Jorge Montoya (Popular Renewal) proposes that while the pension system reform is developed and implemented, ONP pensioners receive bonuses for the amount of a pension in July and December; since they are seniors and “shouldn’t wait another day,” Montoya said, who also chairs the working group of the Congress of the Republic in charge of studying a proposal to strengthen and improve pension systems.

The parliamentarian recalled that the ONP he pays a minimum pension of S/500 per month, which is unfair in his opinion, since it is half of a Minimum Vital Remuneration, which since May 2022 is equivalent to S/1,025.

“They are the most affected in this crisis of the pension systems, the majority are elderly and should not wait another day, Because this is going to take time, it is not immediate. We have the proposal to assign them a bonus equivalent to a pension while the devices to strengthen the system are issued.this is a proposal to be analyzed by the (Economy) Commission,” Montoya said.

They seek that informals can access a pension

The working group to reform the pension system of the Congress of the Republic will present in the next 15 days a bill for non-formal workers to access a pension. This was announced by Montoya.

During his presentation at the Economy Commissionexplained that it is necessary for informal youth in a situation of poverty to be able to access a pension system —as of January 2024— that has the following scheme: a Seed capital of S/100 from the age of 18 to create an account at Banco de la Nación, establish a percentage of payment to this account through a digital wallet and, from the fifth year of contribution, the fund serves as collateral for loans and if the member withdraws his funds, he loses the State contribution.
