The subject of the content of wedding envelopes returns like a boomerang every season. Many people face a big dilemma: if we give too little, it will be a shame, if we give too much – we will go bankrupt. So how much money should you give the bride and groom?
At least as much as the price of a “plate”
The generally accepted rule is that at least as much money as the cost of the “plate” is put into the envelope. Today, these amounts oscillate on average between PLN 250 and even PLN 500. So it is worth discreetly asking the bride and groom in advance about the prices this year. A great opportunity will be the moment of handing out the invitations or loose chat closer to the date of the wedding. Perhaps you will be able to catch information on how much the bride and groom spend per person and – thanks to this – adjust the amount of money you put in the envelope.
Traditionally, more money is given by close family or friends. Especially godparents and witnesses. However, there is no fixed framework as to how much someone should put into the envelope. For some, a thousand zlotys is a lot, others will aim for 5 or 10 thousand. It all depends on the basic question – how much we can afford. If we plan to give the bride and groom so much money that we have to take out a loan, it may be worth rethinking this decision.
How much to give to not be a “beetroot”
Exactly. Some even put newspaper clippings in the envelopes or leave them empty. This, in turn, looks like . Not everyone can afford to give the bride and groom any amount, and that’s perfectly fine. You can always give them a symbolic gift or just your presence on this important day. They will certainly be pleased if you offer your help – whether it’s organizing a wedding or moving to a shared apartment.
