Midagri: Agricultural Insurance reaches S/4.5 million in compensation to farmers affected by rains

The head of the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (Midagri), Nelly Paredes del Castillo, reported that to date S/4.5 million amounts to the amount of compensation for the Catastrophic Agricultural Insurance (SAC) for agricultural producers in regions affected by heavy rains and floods.

According to the official, the SAC will cover around 3,500 affected hectares in Tumbes for S/1.2 million; Piura, 937 hectares; Lambayeque, 876 hectares; La Libertad, 105 hectares; Ancash, 530 hectares; Lima, 1,000 hectares; and Ica with 793 hectares of crops.

“Then, the compensable amount amounts to S/4.5 million to date to cover the affected areas of small producers,” said the minister.

The SAC is active in all 24 regions

Midagri highlighted that the SAC is free insurance, 100% financed by the State, to provide coverage to the poorest and most vulnerable farmers in the country, and whose purpose is to support them to reinsert themselves in agricultural activity and compensate the damages generated by events natural. The compensable amount reaches S/800 per hectare.

In addition, he added that in 2023 the contracts with two insurance companies that cover the SAC in the 24 departments are in force.

It should be noted that this insurance covers natural phenomena, such as drought, hail and snow; excessive or untimely rains; pests; huaicos and landslides, among others. It does not generate any cost to the producers.

Aid to affected agricultural producers

On the other hand, Minister Paredes pointed out that, as part of the emergency response, Midagri, through the National Institute for Agrarian Innovation (INIA), has delivered 131 tons of humanitarian aid to the families affected by the phenomena to date. natural in the northern regions.

In the same way, he announced the actions of the sector in the north of the country, such as Piura with 11 interventions for S/8.3 million; Lambayeque with PEJEZA with 6 interventions for S/1.7 million; La Libertad with 21 PSI interventions for S/10 million, and Lima with two interventions for S/756,000. “Our interventions consist of the execution of cleaning and clearing of drains, canals and other tasks,” he said.
