More than 30% of technology sales are online in Peru

Last year, 7 out of 10 Peruvian consumers (73%) who make their purchases online were forced to spend less on their daily needs due to increased prices, according to a study carried out by the market analysis company G.F.K..

Research also indicates that close to 45% of people believe that now is a good time to wait rather than make a purchase right away. This indicator has had an accelerated growth since 2020 when it stood at only 33%.

By contrast, only 11% of people perceive that it is a good time to acquire a good.

This is complemented by the actions that consumers have taken. For example, more than half of them (53%) postpone their purchases until the product they want is on sale.

“Today, consumers are very clear about discount seasons, such as cyber days, and they also know when companies raise prices so that discounts appear. They are more attentive because they think much more about their expenses,” he says. Karen DoigCountry Manager of GFK Peru.

The increase in prices has also made a third of this population (31%) buy second-hand products instead of a new one. While a similar percentage (32%) switched from well-known brands to less expensive ones.
