Labor Day holiday generated an economic impact of US$76 million

Due to the Labor Day holiday -from April 28 to May 1- Around 635,000 visitors were mobilized nationwidegenerating an economic impact of US$76 million, explained the head of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur).

According to the study of the holiday of Labor Day 2023, Metropolitan Lima generated 50% of the flow of trips nationwide. The main reasons for selecting the place were the variety of tourist attractions (39.2%), the weather (29.2%) and the recommendations of family or friends (17.3%).

According to the study, 55.3% of the travelers stayed at the home of relatives and/or friends or their own home, while 44.7% had to pay for a hotel and lodging. In addition, the majority traveled by interprovincial bus (52.7%), followed by private car (20.6%) and plane (9.5%).

The Mincetur detailed that, on average, The tourists’ trip was 4 nights and they spent S/452 per person, which was used for transportation, food, accommodation and tourist visits. In the case of La Libertad, the average employability was 49.9%, in Cusco 48.3%, Junín 42.2%, Arequipa 41.8% and Cajamarca 37.8% among others.
