He mining and hydrocarbons sector registered an increase of 9.28% in March of this year. This was mainly driven by the good performance of the metal mining (+8.70%) and hydrocarbons (+12.66%) activities, reported the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI).
In detail, the technical report “Short-term progress of economic activity” also reported that the result is explained by the greater volume produced of copper (19.9%), molybdenum (7.1%), iron (14.0%) , gold (1.0%) and lead (1.5%). However, there was a decrease in zinc (-23.8%), tin (-48.5%) and silver (-2.0).
For its part, the positive performance of the hydrocarbons subsector contributed to the higher level of exploitation of Raw oil (50.4%) and natural gas (15.3%). However, the production of natural gas liquids did have a downward trend of -3.6%.
Increased fishing production by 22.09%
Meanwhile, the fishing sector increased 22.09% in the third month of the year. This was due to the greater extraction of species of maritime origin (28.45%), those for direct human consumption (41.00%), those destined for canning (81.5%), frozen (50, 9%) and, finally, those for consumption fresh (26.8%).
For its part, fishing for indirect human consumption, such as the anchovy resource for fishmeal and fish oil, contracted due to the increase in sea surface temperature. Thus, it only reached 28 tons compared to the 37.0 25 reported in the same period of time as last year.
Finally, fishing of continental origin dropped 4.33% due to the lower extraction of species for frozen and cured preparation.
Domestic cement consumption decreased by 15.33%
For its part, the internal consumption of cement decreased by 15.33% in relation to March 2022. This was due to the lower progress in private and self-construction works, which have been reporting seven months of unfavorable results.
At the same time, the low level of demand and adverse weather factors that caused a limited development in the execution of works also contribute negatively.
It should be noted that the construction sector would be marking a downward trend. According to the figures of the Peruvian Chamber of Construction (Capeco), in January there was a fall of 11.7% and in February of 12.3%.
