Labor Order 2023: who are the winners this May 1?

President Dina Boluarte and the Minister of Labor and Employment Promotion, Fernando Varela, presented the 2023 Labor Order award this morning as part of the celebrations for May 1. This distinction is given to those people and institutions that have meritoriously contributed to the welfare of workers.

First, the posthumous award was made to Luis Negreiros Vega (1908-1950)who as Secretary General of Confederation of Workers of Peru He was recognized for his high commitment to the defense of workers’ labor rights and for having founded this union in 1944.

The award was also given to Luz Imelda Pacheco Zerga, a lawyer specializing in labor law and current Vice President of the Constitutional Court. During the ceremony, it was highlighted that he actively contributed to improving the situation of workers who lack a good exercise of their rights and the basic conditions for the optimal development of work.

The next recipient was Rómulo Alvarado Cerro, founder of the College of Graduates in Industrial Relations and a graduate in Human Resources Management. In the mention it was highlighted that he has spent more than 30 years promoting the improvement of the work environment in organizations, the continuous training of workers and safety and health at work.

Work Order 2023 was also handed over to Karin Janeth Quijada Lobatón, a graduate and master’s degree in Education. She stands out for her research, entrepreneurship and her accessibility in the communication of the deaf community in Peru and her article “The importance of entrepreneurship in the Peruvian deaf community: a challenge for inclusion”.

Likewise, Teodosio Palomino Ramírez, founder and president of the Ibero-American Association of Labor Law and Social Security Guillermo Cabanellas, was awarded the posthumous officer rank.

The penultimate recipient of the Labor Order 2023 was Congresswoman Isabel Cortez Aguirre. She was given this distinction for her defense of cleaning workers through her leadership in the Union of Workers, male and female workers; as well as her role in encouraging the participation of women in union leadership.

Finally, the economist Yovana Villegas Zapata was honored, who founded the Artebar Baristas Association in November 2009, from which she promoted barista volunteering to train entrepreneurs in the coffee industry. This in order to support young farmers in the Monzón area in Tingo María.
