Ad portas of the International Worker’s Day, an employee of Ripley -identified as Hugo Visosa, general secretary of the Ripley Peru Union (Sutragrisa)— denounced the company before La República for alleged anti-union practices.
In the images you can see Luis Riscostore manager Ripley of La Rambla (San Borja)interrupting Visosa while he was addressing his colleagues to invite them to the march in commemoration of May 1.
“It is not allowed to give this message here (…) You have to leave here at this minute. You are using a space where they are having lunch. I ask you to leave so that they can have lunch properly. Absolutely everyone (you are bothering) because It’s his snack. You’re not authorized for this. In the store, yes, but not in this private (snack) area,” Risco said.
For his part, Visosa recriminates him in the video that on previous occasions he has used that snack space to address his colleagues, but Risco assured him that “there are N ways, but this is not it.”
“Now a labor relationship restricts the freedom of expression of a worker on the eve of May 1, all because we will hold a demonstration on Monday at 11 am in front of Ripley San Borja,” Visosa said for this newspaper.
The Republic sought a response from Ripley, and from its communications agency they indicated that they will pronounce shortly.
Ripley: “We ensure the well-being of our workers”
After the dissemination of the complaint by La República, Ripley assured that it “ensures the well-being and permanent communication with all its workers”, and that at no time did it reduce the powers of its union members.
“At Ripley we are respectful of union freedom. Therefore, all the facilities are provided to our unionized and non-unionized workers, and all have the possibility of having spaces and environments for dialogue. Our unions have union showcases located inside of the store to communicate to its affiliates and non-affiliates any initiative or news, always safeguarding freedom of expression”, said the department store.
