He Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) announced that four mobile operators pre-qualify as bidders for the bidding for bands for more 4G services, referring to Internet and telephony, in the interior of the country.
MTC pointed out that, through the Agency for the Promotion of Private Investment (ProInversión), the Peruvian State continues with the bidding for the AWS-3 and 2.3 GHz bands of the radio spectrum, with the aim of reducing the digital divide and optimizing the 4G services.
The four mobile operators (Telefónica Perú, América Móvil, Entel Perú and Viettel Perú) have been declared as pre-qualified bidders to participate in the special public tender for the allocation, at the national level, of the aforementioned bands.
“Unlike the previous call, which was put on hold in February 2022, today there is a greater number of qualified bidders and interested in the process, because, with its relaunch at the beginning of this management, greater predictability and Incentives were generated for the participation of investors in the process,” reported the MTC.
The good pro is scheduled for the month of June 2023, and the investment commitments would begin with its implementation at the end of the fourth quarter of the current year, indicated ProInversión.
In this way, it is expected to provide and improve the 4G mobile service (telephony and internet) to different communities and areas in the interior of Peru, which today lack access to these services.
“The AWS-3 and 2.3 GHz Bands will allow us to offer better coverage characteristics and greater data capacity. An investment of S/1,000 million is estimated in infrastructure deployment commitments, which will benefit more than 700 rural localities with 4G services, approximately”, reported the Vice Minister of Communications, Patricia Carreño.
