The head of the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF), Kurt Burneoemphasized that his portfolio will work hand in hand with the Central Reserve Bank of Peru (BCRP) in order to boost the economy.
However, he maintained that it is necessary to control inflation without neglecting national production.
“We require a joint effort to avoid hitting the brakes and the accelerator of the economy at the same time. Inflation must be controlled, but also productive activity that generates employment and citizen welfare must be promoted. It is key to articulate both actions”, he wrote on Twitter after meeting with the president of the BCRP, Julio Velarde.
It is worth remembering that Burneo Farfán underlined — after being sworn in — that the increase in the cost of The interest rates that the BCRP executes to contain inflation “make the effort to reactivate (the economy) slow down.”
Finally, the minister pointed out that there is “absolute respect for the constitutional autonomy” of the BCRP, but it will be crucial to maintain coordination; In this sense, he announced that the technical teams of both portfolios will hold regular work meetings.
