The Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) reported that a total of 11 regions in the interior of the country increased their exports in the first two months of the year, according to the latest Regional Trade Report – February 2023.
In the north of the country, there were three prominent regions: Lambayeque (+34%), piura (+24%) and Freedom (+15%). All managed to increase their shipments thanks to increased sales of agricultural, non-metallic mining and fishing goods.
Lambayeque reached US$122 million as a result of an increase in its agricultural exports. LBlueberry shipments totaled US$ 38.8 million (+142.8%); avocado, US$ 5.2 million (+231.5%); and grapes, US$ 20 million (+102.6%).
For its part, the La Libertad region totaled US$639.2 million due to an increase in anthracite sales (+189.7%), silver and lead concentrates (+66%) and fishmeal (+45%), which totaled US$41.8 million, US$44.6 million and US$57.7 million, respectively.
Meanwhile, Piura generated US$678.5 million in exports. Its shipments of squid accumulated US$153.6 million (+171.9%); calcium phosphate, US$114.2 million (+94%); and fuel oil, US$44.9 million (+617.4%).
Performance in the center of the country
The six regions that make up the Peruvian center also increased their shipments. Ica ranks as the central region that exported the most, after totaling US$1,391.1 million (+7.9%) at the end of the first two months of the year. It stands out for its copper sales, which accumulated US$199.7 million (+28.3%); grapes, which totaled US$502.4 million (+ 19.4%); and long steel, which totaled US$21.1 million (+19.8%).
Junín achieved a growth of 29.2% by accumulating US$402.8 million between the months of January and February. Its shipments of copper (+38.2%), zinc (+344.6%) and ginger (+15.8%) stand out. Ayacucho, on the other hand, reached US$145.4 million (+7.3%) thanks to exports of silver and lead concentrate (+6,107.4%).
The Pasco region added US$169.8 million (+250.4%) in shipments, as a result of higher sales of minerals such as copper (+501.8%), silver and lead concentrate (+366.3%) and zinc (+67.3%), which accumulated US$82.7 million, US$68.7 million and US$5 million respectively.
Huancavelica raised its exports (+74.2%), reaching US$31.8 million, due to the increase in copper sales (+767.8%), which totaled US$18.9 million. Huánuco, for its part, totaled US$1.6 million (+12.2%), mainly due to higher shipments of avocado (+147%) and beans (+66%).
south and east
In this area of the country, Moquegua (+92.4%) is the only region that increased its exports at the end of the first two months of the year. The start of operations in Quellaveco allowed for increased shipments of copper (+110%) and molybdenum (+81%), reaching US$539.6 million and US$70.4 million, respectively.
