Minem and the main mining companies in Peru agree on objectives to reactivate the sector

The Minister of Energy and Mines, oscar veramet this week with executives of the main mining companies operating in Peru, reaffirming the Government’s commitment to increase mining investments and generate benefits for the country.

After the meeting, the head of Minem stated that a “good moment” has returned with businessmen in the mining sector. In this sense, he said that there is a lot of “optimism and satisfaction” to attract greater investment.

“That, for us, is very good news. It gives us an image of the stability that the country has and that the businessmen are committed to continue investing in social works for the benefit of Peruvians,” said Vera Gargurevich.

For his part, the Vice President of Corporate Affairs and Sustainability of Anglo American (Quellaveco), Diego Ortega, assured the meeting was a “clear sign” of the fraternity that now exists within the sector in the face of greater capital for new projects in which next years.

Meanwhile, the Manager of Corporate Affairs and Business Development of Las Bambas, Carlos Castro, stated that the business side has perceived “a very clear opening” of Minem to promote extractive activity, after a period of instability due to the high social conflict.

“Today’s meeting has been very important and positive for us. The minister has shown openness to listen to us and together with his vice ministers they are very committed to moving the mining sector forward,” said Zhang Xudong, President and General Manager of Chinalco. Peru.

The meeting was attended by the Vice President of Corporate Affairs and Sustainability of Anglo American, Diego Ortega; the General Manager of Minsur, Juan Luis Kruger; the Manager of Corporate Affairs and Business Development of Las Bambas, Carlos Castro; the Manager of Institutional Relations and Corporate Issues of Antamina, César Liendo; and Executive President of Buenaventura, Roque Benavides.

Also in attendance were the General Manager of San Ignacio de Morococha, Víctor Atenas; the Vice President of Corporate Affairs and Sustainable Development of Gold Fields, Domingo Drago; the Manager of Explorations of Rio Tinto, Jonas Mota; Hudbay General Manager, Luis Santivañez; the Executive President of the Board of Directors of Minera Poderosa, Eva Arias de Sologuren; the President and General Manager of Chinalco Peru, Zhang Xudong; and the General Manager of Hochschild, Ignacio Bustamante.
