Trujillo: pandemic left more than 40,000 leather and footwear workers unemployed

The mayor of the El Porvenir district, in Trujillo, Víctor Rebaza Benites, stated that more than 40,000 workers of the micro and small enterprises (mypes) in the leather and footwear sector in their jurisdiction were left unemployed after the stoppage of the 80% of companies of the aforementioned item due to the pandemic.

These statements were made during the inauguration of the Calzaferia 2021 in El Porvenir, which seeks to reactivate the economy in the mypes porvenireñas that produce shoes. The mayor of the province of Trujillo, José Ruiz Vega, was present at the ceremony. La Calzaferia takes place in blocks 12 and 13 of Pumacahua avenue, one of the main avenues in the district.

“I have decided to support this call for the footwear entrepreneurs of our district, because they have gone through difficult times that so far have not surpassed, since it has been a pandemic for almost two years. With the Calzaferia we want revive the economy and reverse the paralysis of 80% of footwear companies so that we can once again have our flagship product, ”said Rebaza Benites.

The municipal authority congratulated the footwear producers for trusting in these contests that will allow to show the trend of the spring-summer season 2022.
