A third of the homes in Ipar Euskal Herria are second homes, they are empty, and a great crisis has been generated for that reason.
This Saturday one of the most numerous demonstrations in recent years was held in Baiona. Some 8,000 people have taken to the streets in the capital of Lapurdi in favor of the right to housing and against speculation, since at the moment the housing crisis is one of the main problems affecting Ipar Euskal Herria.
The protesters have denounced that there are too many empty houses in Iparralde, that a third of the dwellings is second house, and that many are used as tourist apartments, fully affecting the rental price, raising prices and leaving many people out of the market.
32 social agents have supported the protest, and numerous banners, posters or costumes have been seen among the protesters. The sound of the keys has also been heard, as a symbol of the house that they cannot access.
They demand to guarantee rents for the whole year, fix prices and build more social protection housing, among other slogans. For all this, they have asked the leaders other types of policies and decisions.
