The Ministry of Transport and Communications (TCM) reported that, as part of the commissioning plan for the new control tower and the second runway of the Jorge Chavez International Airportcommercial flights will use both infrastructures, between 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm each day.
“This progressive and gradual use will allow air traffic controllers and the aviation community to continue to become familiar with the operations associated with the new tower and second runway, as well as identify opportunities for improvement,” the MTC said in a press release.
In turn, he stressed that the decision responds to the experience that has been carried out in the international airports of Bogotá, Santiago and Sao Paulo, among other cities with new airport infrastructure.
For its part, the Peruvian Corporation of Airports and Commercial Aviation (Corpac) indicated that access to the second runway will be carried out efficiently within the scheduled times, without generating delays in the aeronautical service.
Both infrastructures began to operate on April 1 and it was emphasized that operations would be carried out progressively, that is, flights and air traffic control will be scheduled periodically, in order to ensure an efficient transition.
The MTC, Corpac, the concessionaire Lima Airport Partners and the entire aeronautical community worked together to make infrastructure operations possible, which is considered an important milestone for the country and national civil aviation.
