The trip between Quito and Cancun takes almost four hours, on the new Avianca route that will open on June 15 with three flights a week and more than 4,000 seats available on Airbus A320 aircraft.
This is the thirteenth direct route that the airline will operate until the middle of the year.
In March, Avianca started with three routes: Quito-Medellín, Guayaquil-Medellín and Guayaquil-Cartagena, and on June 1st it expects to start flights between Quito and New York.
Domestic and international flights are on the rise; airlines have high expectations for Christmas and New Year in Ecuador
“Ecuadorians having access to more direct routes is a fundamental part of the business model change we are implementing to be Avianca for everyone. In the first half of this year alone, we are opening five new routes to destinations that are very attractive to Ecuadorian travelers, but also allow us to expand that connection without flights to attract tourists from the region to get to know Ecuador,” said María Beatriz González, Commercial Director of Avianca for Ecuador.
Trips to Cancun are frequent on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
Flight | Route | Frequency | Exit | Arrival |
---|---|---|---|---|
AV7394 | Quito-Cancun | Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday | 07:30 hours 05:12 |
11:10 08:52 hours |
AV7395 | Cancun – Quito | Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday | 12:10 09:52 hours |
15:50 hours 13:32 |
According to Avianca, there is a promotional fare of $249 one-way, including taxes. This newspaper made a few inquiries on the Avianca website and these were the values.
For a direct flight, which departs at 05:12 on Jun 17 and arrives at 08:52, is $271.16. Returning on June 20 to $274.46 (07:30 to 11:10). That’s a total of $545.62.
Another option is on June 15th, departing at 07:30 and arriving at 11:10 in Cancun. The price is $249.96. Returning on June 22 at $271.16 (07:30 to 11:10). That’s a total of $521.12.
For scales, reduce the value a little. For example: a June 25 departure is $234.06 with a stopover in Medellín, Colombia. The total travel time with stopovers is almost 18 hours. And the return on June 28 costs the same and the itinerary is the same. The round trip result is $468.12.
The direct routes operated by Avianca are:
“Our goal is to increase new frequencies and exceed the number of operations we had before the pandemic. In order to meet this goal, we maintain an open skies policy in the Government that allows us to get more flights such as the new direct route Quito-Cancun. The joint work of the Ministry of Transport and Public Works and commercial airlines promotes the growth of the country’s connectivity with the world. Our vision, as a helping entity, allows us to provide better options to travelers, attract international investment, position Ecuador on the world map, attract more tourists and contribute to the economic development of our country,” said Darío Herrera, Minister of Transport and Public Works.
The Minister of Tourism, Niels Olsen, pointed out that this new route brings Ecuador and Mexico closer together: “This fills us with joy as we continue our goal of putting more Ecuador in the world and more of the world in Ecuador.” We are very excited that we will continue to receive more and more Mexican tourists who support the revitalization of the country’s economy with their visits and, as always, we offer them the best experiences”, he assured.
“We are very grateful to our strategic partner Avianca for increasing the offer of direct destinations from Quito. We worked closely with Aviance executives to align our expectations and establish attractive business terms for the airline, offering incentives that allow this new route to grow and establish. We hope to continue growing together in the future to offer better connectivity to Quito and the country,” commented Ramón Miró, CEO of Quiport.
