This was confirmed by the president of the Gamarra Peru Business Association, Susana Saldaña. “At the beginning of August it is sold at super low prices: 50%, 60% and 70% (of discount) in the garments that are remaining, ”said the representative of the textile union.

Gamarra entrepreneurs face risk of bankruptcy

Saldaña clarified that Gamarra businesses usually offer discounts at the end of the season, but before they had not seen the need to offer a settlement of this type.

“Before the pandemic, the settlement was made, but not at such discounts. We always try to liquidate our campaigns to move on to the next one, but this one is very important,” Susana Saldaña told La República.

Gamarra’s businessmen urgently need to obtain capital. “If some microentrepreneurs cannot finish liquidating everything and recover as much capital as they can, unfortunately, they will not be able to invest in the coming campaign and they will keep their products. That practically puts you out of business.” alerted the union representative.

Negative expectations for the end of 2022 in Gamarra

At the beginning of the year, the forecasts in the commercial emporium pointed to recovering the ground lost during the COVID-19 pandemic, but now they are trying not to go back in what little progress they made.

“We hoped that this year would be more productive and (we thought) that we would be able to overcome the gap and pass 50% of the recovery process,” said the leader of the Gamarra Peru Business Association. “As of December (2022), unfortunately, more than exceeding 50%, what we have to do is do what is necessary to not lower that number, not to go backwards,” she added.

Rejection by message to the nation of Pedro Castillo

The Gamarra board criticized the government because the businessmen of their sector “have not been able to access any type of financing either cheap credit”. In May, the textile sector was declared in emergency and loans of up to S/ 100,000 were announced, but this proposal did not materialize, according to Saldaña.

“Absolutely, there was no result of that declaration”, since the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) did not approve the fund of S / 800 million, stressed Susana Saldaña. She also emphasized that the textile and clothing industry continues to be paralyzed by 50%, with half a million jobs that still cannot be recovered.

In this sense, the leader of the commercial consortium rejected Pedro Castillo’s message to the nation for National Holidays. “We are outraged that mype two lines have been dedicated, but the word ‘mype’ has not even been mentioned. In the production part, it seems that there is only fishing”, he maintained.
