Cordex does not come to compete with Fedexpor and other unions, but to complement representation, they assure from the new corporation

Cordex is made up of CNA, Aebe, Acorbanec, CNP, Ancacao and Asoexpla.

The creation of a new union representing the export sector, the Ecuador Export Guilds Corporation (Cordex), generated interest in specialists and foreign trade actors who are already analyzing their action plan and how it will unfold in an ecosystem where there are already voices with similar objectives.

The new Corporation, which was created on August 11, but was officially presented last Wednesday, is made up of the Ecuadorian Banana Exporters Association (AEBE), the Banana Marketing and Export Association (Acorbanec), the Association Ecuador’s National Cacao Exporters (Anecacao), the Banana Exporters Association (Asoexpla), the National Fisheries Chamber (CNP) and the National Aquaculture Chamber (CNA).

Cordex, a new union of exporters, will focus on promoting the signing of trade agreements and improving competitiveness

The economic analyst Jorge Calderon believes that despite the fact that Cordex has a similar approach regarding the search for trade agreements, the promotion of exports and the construction of public policies, that other unions, such as the Ecuadorian Federation of Exporters (Fedexpor), the new entity would aim to have a better capacity for pushing, maneuvering and coordination.

He pointed out that these unions are the largest in the country’s exportable supply, that they already have a developed logistics and production capacity that will allow them to position themselves and grow rapidly in large markets such as China and the United States, where they already have a presence.

Calderón analyzed that Cordex is more specialized, as he indicated that the unions that comprise it group between 70% and 75% of the country’s non-oil exports, which to date are $ 14,000 million, of which around $ 10,500 million they are generated by the members of the new grouping.

Based on this, he highlighted the difference between Cordex and Fedexpor, which according to the expert is that the latter covers the representativeness of all exports, even those that have a low amount and seek to open markets to strengthen themselves.

“(Cordex) would not be so relegated by joining with other smaller sectors that are just making their space, I think it is the main impulse that they have, a wide capacity for maneuver depending on the level of representativeness that it has and not depend or to be anchored in function of the smaller export sectors ”, expressed Calderón.

While, Francisco Miranda, president of Anecacao and part of the Board of the new union, assured that the creation of Cordex obeyed to transversal needs of the unions that integrate it.

“There are multiple unions that represent the export sector, but the message is very diffuse, it is not direct, the needs of the small exporter of any field are not necessarily the same as those of the large exporting groups,” explained the businessman, who added that they have spaces to cover in the domestic sector with the national government and that at the international level they seek to make their message direct, effective and more valuable for the Ecuadorian economy.

Richard Salazar, executive director of Acorbanec, partner and part of the Board of Cordex, He explained that Cordex only groups together exporters’ unions from different productive activities at the national level. In the case of Fedexpor, he pointed out that more than 96% of its partners are companies that export and 4% are exporters, among which are the majority of the founders of Cordex.

The creation of an emergency front seeks to offset the impact of the global logistics crisis

“Cordex is created by the coincidence in the competitiveness and safety agenda; as well as the construction of public policies according to the needs of each sector and adapted to the reality and situations that arise, such as the current logistics problem generated by the shortage of shipping spaces spots and the high costs of freight, “said the banana leader, who added that in competitiveness, among other common aspects of the unions that make up Cordex, is the need to promote the signing of trade agreements with the Eurasian Economic Union, China, Korea from the South, Japan; and other strategic markets to improve access to their products.

“Cordex is not going to compete with Fedexpor, on the contrary, we are going to complement each other in the set objectives; What’s more, most of the founders of the new union are partners and part of the Fedexpor board of directors, and we will continue working to strengthen this institution as well ”, clarified Salazar.

This newspaper consulted the executives of Fedexpor about the creation of Cordex, but until the closing of this edition there was no response. (I)
