President Pedro Castillo, during his message to the nation at the Congress of the republicassured that the purchase process of fertilizers for the 2022-2023 agricultural campaign will end in July and, with this, he stressed that the urea will arrive in August.
“The purchase and import of fertilizers, which will end at the end of July guarantees the supply of farmers with a subsidized price (…) These fertilizers will arrive in August. For this reason, I affirm that my Government does comply with and guarantee the 2022-2023 agricultural campaign,” the president mentioned during his National Holidays speech.
He also indicated that his government has “taken the pertinent measures” in the midst of the global emergency due to the shortage of fertilizers. Since May, the Executive has carried out two unsuccessful procedures for the purchase of these, and a new contest is being carried out, with which the supplier would be chosen this weekend.
Previously, the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (Midagri) had reported that seven companies from six countries were being evaluated in the acquisition process. Bidders are from Italy, the United States, Paraguay, Russia, Mexico and Australia.
At another point in his speech, Castillo Terrones stated that the Executive has been building the Register of Agricultural Producers which, to date, has more than 426,000 registered in 900 centers, with a projection of having 1 million farmworkers identified by the end of 2022. This registry creates their digital identity and will allow them to access credits from Agrobanco , fertilizers, seeds, price information, satellite monitoring and more.
