He International Monetary Fund (IMF) predicts that the global gross domestic product (GDP) growth is located in the environment of 3% over the next five years, which represents the worst medium-term prospects since 1990. The data is also below the average growth of global GDP for the last 20 years, which has stood at 3.8%.
Kristalina Georgievadirector of the IMF, has advanced these forecasts, which are expected for Tuesday: “The path ahead, and especially the path back to robust growth, is rough and confusing, and the ropes that hold us together may be weaker now than a few years ago.”
Georgieva explained that there are “marked differences” between the blocks. Thus, growth will come from emerging economies, and “Asia especially is a bright spot“India and China are expected to account for half of world growth in 2023,” he said.
However, “economic activity is slowing in the United States and the euro areawhere higher interest rates weigh on demand,” he explained.
In any case, Georgieva has stressed that banks are now more solid and resilient than in the 2008 crisis, although she has urged the authorities to remain vigilant. As long as no major problems appear, she has ordered the central banks to continue focusing on tackling inflation.
The director of the IMF has also marked as priorities to improve growth prospects in the medium term and increase international solidarity to reduce the debt problems of the poorest countries.
