Rosangella Barbarán: “The pay-as-you-go system (pensions) has failed”

The Economy Commission of the Congress He held a working session this Wednesday to put together the arguments for his proposal to reform the pension system, which, in essence, prioritizes the creation of individual fund capitalization accounts.

“We seek that all Peruvians have a decent pension. It is useless that we all have a pension that is derisory (…). I believe that the pay-as-you-go system (pensions) in our country has failed. All Peruvians must have an individual capitalization account that is managed by the State or private“, he pointed rosangella barbaranpresident of said parliamentary working group.

It is worth noting that, a few days ago, Barbarán mentioned to La República that his proposal differs from the one being developed in the Labor Commission on the participation of the State in the administration of the funds, since, in his opinion, there are bad experiences regarding State capacity for resource management.

The day in the Economy Commission was marked by a tense discussion between lilia oria, president of the National Association of Contributors and Exporters (ANAEA) and the legislators present, after Oria questioned that the previous day citizens had not been invited to a table made up of officials from the AFPs, Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF), Central Reserve Bank of Peru (BCRP) and Superintendency of Banking and Insurance (SBS). The session adjourned without further progress on the pension reform proposal.

Executive has not yet delivered a report on the pension system

Barbarán expressed his dissatisfaction with the delay of the Executive Branch in delivering the report that diagnoses the current pension model, and assured that if it is not delivered until April 10, “measures will be taken.”
