The meeting between the French prime minister and the unions on the pension reform has concluded in “failure”, according to they have affirmed unionsbefore the negative by Elisabeth Borne of remove text legal.

The representatives of the eight main trade union centrals have read a joint statement at the end of the meeting that lasted a scant hour. The main message they have sent is that the unions are not willing to open negotiations on other labor issues, as Borne wanted, until they withdraw the pension reform.

Cyril Chabanier, President of CFTC, has stated that it has been “necessarily a failure”. “The Prime Minister has said that she wants to keep her text” she reported and added that “it is a serious decision because almost the entire population rejects it.”

She has recognized that the issues that Borne wanted to put on the table are important, but has clarified that “they are related to pensions and the delay in retirement age.”

Sophie Binet, the new leader of CGT, has considered this morning’s meeting useless and has opined that “The Government is radicalized, obtuse and disconnected from reality”. Likewise, he has affirmed that he is responsible for generating the social climate that has been created and that the mobilizations have to continue “until the Government understands that there is no other way out than the withdrawal of the reform.”

For her part, Prime Minister Elizabeth BorneHas made a short statement after the meeting held with the unions, in which he highlighted “the respectful tone” they have maintained. He has assured that he has listened to each union and that he has emphasized his “availability” to them, because he has no intention of moving forward without them in the other social discussions that he wants to launch. However, he has remembered that she considers reform necessary of pensions.

The union centrals have made an appeal for “there to be the maximum number of workers and citizens in the demonstrations” tomorrow Thursday, the eleventh day of protests.
