Annualized inflation to March was 8.67% nationwide

The nationwide inflation at 12 months it advanced 8.67% in March, after having increased 1.19% in the last month. The result was influenced by the categories of education and food, which advanced 4.76% and 2.32% in March, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI).

In the third month of the year, 20 of the 26 cities in which the Consumer Price Index is calculated showed price increases. Of these, 12 showed a figure higher than the national average. In contrast, six cities presented downward results.

The highest variations were observed in the northern cities due to heavy rains: Piura (2.59%), Trujillo (2.39%), Chiclayo (2.31%), Cajamarca (2.23%) and Tumbes. (1.98%).

While the cities located in the south of the country registered negative results: Puerto Maldonado (-5.67%), Cusco (-0.83%), Puno (-0.59%), Abancay (-0.55%) and Huancavelica (-0.29%).

For her part, the inflation to 12 months in Metropolitan Lima it was 8.40% in March, after having advanced 1.25% in the third month of 2023 and achieving an accumulated variation of 1.77% at the end of the first quarter of the year; however, it is less than the 8.64% achieved in February.

The result was influenced by higher prices in education and food and non-alcoholic beverages which, together, contributed 0.868% to the monthly result for March.

The education division advanced 4.79%, mainly the rise in the cost of non-state secondary education (9.2%) and preschool and primary education (8.8%) due to increases in pensions and enrollment.

In the case of food and non-alcoholic beverages, meat prices rose (8.2%) due to the increase in eviscerated chicken (16.0%), eviscerated chicken (8.3%), ground beef (2 .2%) and meat for beef stew (1.8%).

The prices of fruits such as strawberry (51.8%), lemon (18.4%), mango (17.1%), silk banana (12.7%), inguiri green banana (7.0%) also rose %), cucumber (6.3%) and orange juice (4.0%).

Meanwhile, the prices of vegetables fell, legumes include potatoes and other tubers (-2.5%) such as huayro (-15.0%), yellow (-11.4%), white (-11.1%) ), color (-9.3%), pickled chili pepper (-10.9%), green peas (-8.5%), Italian tomato (-5.9%) and green beans (-5.2%) .
