The Landaben committee asks that the plant accommodate the assembly of battery cells to guarantee employment
Otherwise, it has warned that there are 600 jobs “in the air” as of 2027. The committee had already been transferring that until reaching 2026 they were going to experience “a small journey in the desert”, although they were not ” aware of the magnitude of that journey”.

Euskaraz irakurri: Landabengo enpresa-batzordeak eskatu du lantegiak bateriak muntatzeko fabrika har dezala, enplegua bermatzeko
The works council of Volkswagen Navarra It has demanded this Friday that the company have the battery cell assembly factory within the Landaben plant to guarantee employment. Otherwise, he has warned that there are 600 jobs “up in the air” as of 2027.
The chairman of the committee, Alfredo Morales (UGT)has stated that this factory should be within the Landaben plant “because it provides added value, because this technology is key to the technological and industrial development of the factory and because it will cushion the personnel deficit from the year 2027”.
“The cell assembly factory means that we do not have surpluses. If not, we have 600 jobs that are in the air as of 2027,” he pointed out.
Alfredo Morales has explained that the management of Volkswagen Navarra has transferred to the committee that the decision on the battery factory “does not correspond to this management” but to “higher levels”, for which the works council will request, with the collaboration of the committee worldwide, to be received by the management of the group.

Morales, accompanied by delegates from the rest of the unions that make up the committee (CCOO, ELA, LAB and CGT, as well as UGT) has explained that, in the coming years, and within the transformation process for the manufacture of electric cars, there will be a drop in production.
“Volumes drop substantially in 2024 and crash in 2025, continuing to crash through mid-2026,” he said.
Morales explained that the committee had already been conveying that until 2026 they were going to experience “a small journey in the desert”, although they were not “aware of the magnitude of that journey”.
“It is beyond our understanding that someone is doubting that we do not have that battery cell assembly factory in Volkswagen Navarra, beyond giving it to a third party to make that investment,” he indicated.
