Ecuador will receive a total of 275 million dollars from CAF – Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean – to strengthen the sustainability and equity of the education and health systems.

These activities will contribute to the modernization of the education system and increase the quality and access to health interventions through projects supporting the provision of indigenous and intercultural health, reducing child malnutrition and premature pregnancy, among others, according to information provided by CAF.

The first loan is worth 150 million dollars and will be directed to the Annual Education Investment Program 2022-2025., run by the Ministry of Education, and will contribute to overcoming gaps in learning, guarantee universal access to children and young people with low incomes and promote their durability and completion of studies at the initial, primary and high school level of education in a large part of the territory. This will be feasible through the development of new educational infrastructures throughout the national territory.

The second loan, in the amount of 125 million dollars, will support the Program for the execution of the Annual Plan of Investment in Public Health 2023-2025, promoted by the Ministry of Public Health of Ecuador. Funds will be allocated to the reduction of child malnutrition, the promotion of intercultural health, the elimination of malaria, a comprehensive approach to sexual and reproductive health, a comprehensive approach to the socioeconomic phenomenon of drugs and mental health, and the strengthening of institutional.

“These loans are in addition to the Government’s efforts to support post-pandemic reactivation and improvement of public services in key sectors for the country, such as education and health. At CAF, we promote socioeconomic development that leaves no one behind and manages to offer quality public services to the entire population, especially the most vulnerable groups,” said Sergio Díaz-Granados, CAF Executive President.

CAF approved operations amounting to $4,840 million in favor of Ecuador between 2018 and 2022, with total disbursements amounting to $3,590 million, with an annual average of $718 million. Ecuador represents 13.6% of this organization’s portfolio.
