The first day of the CADE Executives 2021 business forum presented various voices from the country, and as an example of this, the afternoon block addressed the problems and opportunities of different regions of Peru. In the session “Voces del Centro”, business leaders from Huánuco, Ancash, Junín, Pasco and Huancavelica analyzed and put forward proposals for the generation of the well-being of their citizens. The session was conducted by Angélica Vásquez, the person in charge of Productive Development of the Sustainable Development Management of Antamina.
The need to close the gaps in educational training and labor demand was one of the first issues addressed in relation to the development of the regions. Fernando Barrios, Executive President of the Continental University, pointed out the existing concern about inequality in the macro-region, and mentioned as an example the increase in cost of basic water and sewage services that Huánuco and Huancavelica have. “It is not tolerable, we can not normalize the lack of education, or health, or basic services, or poor public management,” said Barrios.
He also detailed the role that businessmen and the State must fulfill; investments in the central macro-region, the impact it has due to political uncertainty and the challenges of the State to build a better country. “We need a more serious State, a State that values what has been done and builds on what has been built. There is a famous saying: ‘people always want to refound politics’, so we cannot build. The state must have incentives to empower people with a consistent effort over time ”, highlighted Barrios.
For her part, Daisy Heidinger, former provincial mayor of Puerto Inca, Huánuco, spoke of the importance of preserving the environment and the benefits of executing an articulated work between regional and local governments with the business sector. “In order to improve conditions, we need to invest more resources, do more projects, more distant roads, more schools, more health posts for the development of the country.”
He also highlighted that the central macro region has great potential and natural resources where megaprojects such as clean energy can be promoted through solar and wind generation. In addition, he proposed that the State and the private company should work together and be an exporting country of finished products. “Both the private company and the State need to migrate from a country that exports inputs, to a country that begins to export finished products,” Heidinger said.
Tarcila Rivera Zea, president of the Board of Directors of Chirapaq, spoke about the urgent need to have an inclusive country that brings together indigenous communities and promotes greater equity with the participation of women. “From the center of the macro region, we must take advantage of and value the great diversity, both ethnic and cultural, and the capacities of the different actors,” expressed Rivera.
In addition, he insisted on dialogue between the communities, civil society, the local businessman and the State: “They have to dialogue in an articulated way to have proposals for sustainable development”, concluded Rivera.
The proposals presented by the business leaders of the central macro-region coincide with the Principles of Effective Social Policy proposal, prepared by the IPAE Business Association, which seeks to promote a more equitable and just society. The Principles are focused on five pillars: Protected Citizens with Opportunities, Quality Services, Effective Institutionality, Responsible Financing and Information, Innovation and Evidence.
Likewise, IPAE has developed various # RUTAPERÚ in Education with proposals that seek to transform the educational system, improve the training of teachers, that the educational offer that young people have is flexible, articulated and of quality; among other.
Finally, Angélica Vásquez, host of the session, closed the table urging the authorities to increase greater access to education, gender equality and the importance of political stability to promote the development of the country. “What the macro-region needs and what the country needs is to work together, work in alliance, in synergies, that each actor knows their roles, strengthen the institutional framework, a solid institutional framework and boost the potential of the territory, both in regions with a gaze of the country and with a vision of the world ”, concluded Vásquez.
It is important to specify that, just as the leaders of the central macro-region are clear that gender equality has to be a focus of development, from IPAE we agree with this line, therefore the Community Leaders for Gender Equity was created, in which It seeks to promote gender equity in and from companies and organizations.
