Apurímac: Las Bambas, the fourth largest copper mine in Peru, returns to 100% operation

Leaf The Bambas, located in Apurímac, fully resumed its operations a week ago after being paralyzed due to social conflicts.

At the beginning of February, the mining company announced its stoppage due to the lack of supplies due to the blockades in the Southern Mining Corridor. Las Bambas is the fourth most important mine dedicated to the exploitation of copper in Peru and represents around 1% of the national GDP.

After more than 40 days in detention, last week the blockades were removed in the Velille district, in the province of Chumbivilcas, where transit was prevented in a section of the Southern Mining Corridor, for which reason the transport of metals was restarted from Saturday March 11.

Now the company indicates that it will work to gradually reduce the copper concentrate from the stockpiles that are waiting to be transported to the port of Matarani (Arequipa) for export.

The mining company registers an accumulation of copper concentrates due to the fact that what was available in 2022 could not be fully exported.

Despite the first blockades registered in December of this year, production was maintained until the beginning of February, the month in which operations did stop due to the impossibility of stocking up on inputs to continue operating.
