The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Óscar Maúrtua, reported this Wednesday 17 that Peru will host the meeting of leaders of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum (APEC) in 2024. The Foreign Minister of the Republic made the announcement during the conference of press of the Council of Ministers, where he took stock of the participation of our country in this year’s event.
“Peru is going to host this event for the third timeIt was in 2018, 2016 and it will be in 2024, ″ said Maúrtua. “It will be the headquarters of this transcendent and gravitating world forum (APEC) in 2024, in which it is not attended as a country, but as an economy,” added the minister. In addition, he stressed that, in this event, the fundamental thing “is development, economic growth and investments.”
The designation of Peru as the headquarters of APEC 2024 came after, the previous week, the President of the Republic, Pedro Castillo, during his participation in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum, made the offer for our country to exercise the presidency of APEC for that year with the objective of working on an inclusive economic development agenda.
In his participation, the president also proposed the production of vaccines against COVID-19 in all the economies of the Asia Pacific and announced the creation of the Ministry of Science and Technology, in support of economic development and environmental sustainability.
The Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Forum aims to “intensify the feeling of the Asia Pacific community and reduce the differences between the economies of the region through a path of sustainable growth.” It is made up of 21 economies, including Australia, Brunei Darussalam, Canada, Chile, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Peru, Philippines, Russia, Singapore, Taipei -China, Thailand, United States and Vietnam.
