The Ministry of Economy and Finance transferred to the accounts of the regional government and local municipalities the amount of 840 million 677 thousand 621 soles for mining canon. This figure is the highest that Tacna has had for this concept since 2003, the date on which the canon distribution began.
In the historical record, the largest canon transfer occurred in 2007, when Tacna obtained 773 million soles. The following year the central government transferred 711 million soles. The canon in Tacna comes from 50% of the income tax paid by the Southern Peru and Minsur mining companies.
The regional government, together with all its executing units, received 210 million soles, the largest amount, followed by the district of Ilabaya with 149 million 335 thousand soles. This district is located in the area of influence of the Toquepala mine (Southern). Third in the ranking is the District Municipality of Gregorio Albarracín with 128 million soles, as it is the jurisdiction with the largest population.
The municipalities of the sierra have been the least benefited. The Provincial Municipality of Candarave obtained 4,300,000 soles, and the District Municipality of Huanuara, which is located in the same province, received a transfer of 749,000 soles.
Naliana Rojas Claros, former consultant for the agency Improving Municipal Investment, said that the improvement in the quality of investment has not changed much because there are no major projects that mark a before and after in the districts.
