BCRP: who are the three candidates for the board of directors proposed by Congress?

The president of the Congress of the Republic, Maricarmen Alva, reported this Wednesday that the Legislative commission in charge of electing the three candidates proposed to Diego Macera, Inés Choy and Carlos Oliva to occupy the board of the Central Reserve Bank. The congresswoman made the announcement during her participation in CADE Executives 2021.

Who are the candidates for the board of directors of the BCRP proposed by Congress?

The candidates proposed by the commission made up of the nine spokespersons of the parliamentary benches are Diego Macera, Inés Choy and Carlos Olivas.

The president of Congress mentioned that Macera was elected unanimously, while Chong received eight votes and Oliva obtained six votes in favor.

Diego Macera

Diego Macera is an economist graduated from the Universidad del Pacifico and has a master’s degree in Public Policy from the University of Chicago. He is currently manager of the Peruvian Institute of Economics and vice president of the Transparency Civil Association.

He also served as a part-time professor at the Universidad del Pacifico and was part of the Commission for Sustainable Mining Development of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers between October 2019 and February 2020.

Carlos Oliva

Carlos Oliva Neyra is an economist from the Universidad del Pacífico and a master’s degree in Economics from Georgetown University. He is currently vice president of Cofide.

In the Ministry of Economy and Finance he held the positions of Vice Minister of Finance and Minister of State.

He was director of the Central Reserve Bank and vice president of the Banco de la Nación. He was also part of the Board of Directors of the National Center for Strategic Planning (Ceplan).

In addition, he worked as a consultant and country economist for the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) for Chile, Venezuela and Colombia.

Ines Choy

Inés Marylin Choy Chong is an economist graduated from the Universidad Mayor de San Marcos and a master’s degree in Economics from Rice University in the United States.

During his professional career he held the position of Central Manager of Operations of the Central Reserve Bank.

When will the appointment of the new directors of the BCRP be defined?

The Legislative President, Maricarmen Alva, pointed out that it is expected that tomorrow, November 18, these proposals will be brought before the Plenary of Congress to be debated.
