The Private Investment Promotion Agency (Proinvestment) calls for an international public tender for the Huancayo-Huancavelica railway. This work seeks to benefit more than 75,000 direct residents of the Junín and Huancavelica regions.
“The project is at a fairly mature stage, it has all the structuring aspects quite defined and work is being done on two key points or critical factors identified in a market survey carried out by the IDB: budget update and assignment review of geological risk”, stated Gian Carlos Silva, director of the Proinversión project.
This railway has operated since October 1926, along its 128.7 km and has 7 stations, 20 stops, 15 bridges and 38 tunnels.
With the execution of the project, the aim is to modernize all transport and have a renewed infrastructure, new rolling stock and a signaling and control system, which will guarantee an efficient and comfortable transport system for users, with seven daily circulations in each direction. .
In addition, a new repair and maintenance workshop will be built, as well as a drainage system, the slopes will be protected and stabilized, and the railway superstructure will be renovated.
The call was published in the official newspaper El Peruano and the total investment amount would exceed US$250 million.
The project will be awarded through the Public-Private Association (APP) modality co-financed for 30 years and, in order to guarantee that the current rates are maintained, the Ministry of Transport and Communications will be in charge of setting these.
Until the end of October, interested parties will be able to present the credentials for prequalification, so that, at the end of this year, there will be a possible winner. “The goal we have is to reach December 2023 with the award of the project” highlighted Gian Carlos Silva, project director.
