The Peruvian agricultural exportsafter having finished last year with an advance close to 8%, reached US$887,854,998 in January 2023, which meant a setback of -2.6%, according to data from the Association of Exporters (ADEX).
The negative figure for the first month of the year is mainly the product of the protests and blockades registered in different parts of Peru, according to Claudia Solano Oré, manager of Agroexports for the business union. According to Solano, more than 100,000 formal workers in this sector and another 200,000 who work indirectly, could not carry out their work due to the social conflict.
Results by subsectors
The traditional agricultural shipments were the ones that fell the most, with US$64 million 278,348, which meant a drop of -53.99% compared to US$139 million 695,862 in the same month of the previous year, and a participation of 7.24% in total exports .
In this segment, the leading item was the coffee, which accumulated US$ 58,935,356, but fell -55.51%. They also highlighted sugars and cane molasses, which with US$3,264,899 and US$1,027,414 registered a fall of -32.36% and a growth of 95.06%, respectively.
The main markets of these products were the United States (US$10,283,346), Germany (US$8,685,452) and Belgium (US$7,751,143). The three countries with setbacks of between -60% and -69%.
In what corresponds to the non-traditional agricultural exports, they totaled US$823 million 576,000, achieving an interannual growth of 6.7% and a representation of 92.8% of the total agricultural shipments.
Among the products that generated the highest foreign exchange is the fresh grape with US$335 million 082,217, which fell 0.86% and represented 40.69% of dispatches, the fresh and dried mangoes, which with a reduction of -1.68% accumulated US$77 million 330,099. shipments of red cranberries they grew 3.98% and reached US$72,529,130 million.
The most important destinations were the United States (US$375,603,091), the Netherlands (US$97,596,590) and China (US$31,797,132).
