IBM is introducing three new additions to the 2023 version of its Call For Code Global Challenge, which is awarding prizes totaling $1.4 million. The competition was created in 2018 after David Clark Cause created and launched Call for Code together with founding partner IBM.

The global challenge helps participants gain skills in technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and the cloud using open source software such as Red Hat OpenShift, IBM Cloud and the IBM AI portfolio, including IBM Watson Assistant.

There will be a new version for entrepreneurs. Call for Code for Startups. This is a new program that connects startups, software vendors (ISVs) and venture capital funds (VCs) with selected companies around new business opportunities. Participating startups and ISVs will create solutions using IBM AI technology to help address specific sustainability needs selected by each company.

And finally, in each round, teams will compete for multiple cash prizes totaling up to $1.4 million.

Winning teams can receive prizes in multiple rounds of challenges throughout the year, ranging from $3,000 to $10,000. In addition, the winning team from each challenge category (developers, students and startups) will be eligible to participate in a year-end prize draw of $50,000, including support from the Open Source Linux Foundation.
