Mining investments as of May this year reached US$ 1,887 million

According to the latest Mining Statistics Bulletin (BEM) of the Ministry of Energy and Mines (mine), the Cumulative mining investment from January to May of this year reached US$ 1,887 millionrepresenting a growth of 12% compared to the same period in 2021, when it reached US$ 1,685 million.

Only in May, the mining investments registered US$ 443 million, an increase of 7.7% in relation to what was registered in April (US$ 412 million) and an increase of 14.0% in reference to what was reported in the same month of 2021 (US$ 389 million) , achieving the highest figure executed for this item so far in 2022.

At the level of mining companies, Anglo American Quellaveco SA continues in first place with a 27.5% share, which represents US$519 million. While Antamina Mining Company SA retains second place with 6.8% and US$ 128 million, followed by Minsur SA which rose to third place with 6.4% and a disbursement of US$ 121 million. The three mining companies jointly represent 40.7% of the investment made at the national level.

Likewise, in May, at the regional level, Moquegua maintained its leadership in investments with a contribution of US$ 580 million, which represents 30.8% of the total, with its projects Quellaveco and Saint Gabriel. Second place is occupied by Ica, with US$ 149 million and 7.9% of the investment, in which the Shouxin Expansion stands out.

Áncash continues with US$ 144 million and an investment of 7.6%, executed by the Antamina S.A. Mining Company During the first five months, the three regions mentioned represented 46.3% of the total investment.

It should be noted that mining companies allocate a large part of their total investment to mining equipment, development and preparation aimed at maintaining their current operations, which is reflected in the figures for May, in which the increase in the areas of development and preparation (46.3%), infrastructure (25.8%) and exploration (35.6%).
