Since Wednesday, March 15, a group of residents of the Fernando Rosas community and surrounding areas have entered the facilities of the Morona Station of the North Peruvian Pipeline (ONP)located in Morona, province of Datem del Marañón (Loreto).
According to Petroperú, 36 workers —including its own personnel and contractors— were forced to interrupt their activities as a result of the invasion, which was generated to demand that the State attend to their social demands.
The state firm recalled that by capturing the Morona Station, neighboring communities, workers, infrastructure and facilities of the ONP are put at risk, since crude oil and fuels are available in storage tanks at said station and if heat sources are contacted or is manipulated by unauthorized third parties, “unfortunate consequences” could be generated.
“Given this, the demobilization of personnel has been coordinated, to safeguard their safety and integrity,” they added.
Finally, Petroperú has already notified the National Police and the Public Ministry about what happened and they request their intervention to restore order; and exhorts the citizens who took the plant to “return to the path of dialogue in a climate of peace and harmony.”
