SBS: there are 24,464 deceased AFP members whose pensions have not been claimed by heirs

The Commission for the Defense of the Consumer and Regulatory Bodies of Public Services received today, July 5, the deputy superintendent of Private Pension Fund Administrators, from the Superintendency of Banking, Insurance and AFPs (SBS)Elio Sanchez Chavez, to provide information on the destination of the funds from the individualized capitalization accounts of the AFPs in the case of deceased members without beneficiaries or heirs.

The superintendent reported that the deceased’s fund is unattachable and remains in the member’s name and added that so far there are 24,464 affiliates who have lost their lives, whose survival pensions have not been claimed by heirs.

Likewise, he pointed out that the total amount of these funds amounts to S/ 345 million and 86% of this amount belongs to those members who died between 2012 and 2022.

Sánchez explained that after the death of a member, a survival pension is generated and in the absence of a direct beneficiary, it is configured as an inheritance to the heirs.

If there is none, the amount in the member’s account is distributed among all AFP members.

However, he said, according to the Civil Code, the right to claim an inheritance is imprescriptible. Thus, Until now, the SBS has not granted a pass to the redistribution of the funds until it is certain that there are no heirs.
