The Basque Government anticipates that the Basque economy grows by 1.5% this year and 2.1% next. In addition, it is expected that both years will generate 10,000 jobs and the unemployment rate falls to 8.2% in 2023 and 8.0% in 2024.
The regional Executive, after having the latest data from the Eustat Basque Statistics Institute for March, has considered renewing the economic forecasts made last October. This was explained by the Minister of Economy and Finance, Pedro Azpiazu, at a press conference, in which he was accompanied by the Deputy Minister of Economy and European Funds, IƱaki Barredo, and the Director of Economy and Planning, Alberto Ansuategi.
As he specified, the new forecasts have been made from a perspective “conservative and prudent”aware that the European Central Bank could continue raising rates to all-time highs given the persistence of core inflation, which would hinder growth, but also taking into account that this year the socioeconomic fabric will begin to reach the european funds. In fact, its impact could add to the expected growth of between 1.6% and 2.3% of annual GDP in the period 2021-2026, not counting the knock-on effects that they may have.
