The price of some products is increasing as a result of the mudslides in the north of the country. That is the case of lemonwhich in a few days came to value up to S / 15 per kilo, tripling its usual cost. According to Sin Fronteras, merchants from the Grau Market in Tacna sell at that price due to shortages.
The seller Tina Quispe explained to this local outlet that there is still old stock, that is, yellow lemons, and they are sold for S/7. However, fresh lemons sell for S/15.
“The first-class lemon is priced at S/15 per kilo, the second is sold for S/13. This is for those that arrived, that is, the fresh ones, but the yellow ones are still maintained at the previous price until the stock is exhausted,” said the merchant.
Quispe argued that several northern roads were blocked by the mudslides and many trucks were left stranded. In addition, the passage through the Casma bridge, in Ancash, is restricted, a road that is also used for the transfer of fruits from the north, such as mango, banana, passion fruit, pineapple, among others.
Given this, Tacna merchants have chosen to stock up on merchandise from other areas of the country, such as Arequipa. Regarding these last products, Quispe expressed that they are also suffering an increase.
